ABSTRACT

Talking about the essay as a genre immediately leads us to an endless discussion that tries to define its boundaries; what is a simple «mestizo product» for some people, and a «hybrid genre» for others, we’ll define it according to how each essayist assumes its own production. Of course, this provides us a range of versions about what it is an essay and how to write it. However, within that large variety, the main interest is to review La búsqueda sin fin of Francisco Rivera to highlight the particularities of his essayistic project, his personal hybrid form: that which lies between constant dialogue and fragmentary writing, between literary criticism and the essay.
