Abstract

Liposarcomas account for <1% of all malignant neoplasms and 41% of soft tissue sarcomas. In adults they have an estimated incidence of 4-5/100,000/year in Europe. About 10 – 15% of soft tissue sarcomas are located in the retroperitoneum, generally being asymptomatic until they are large enough to compress surrounding organs. Our case consists of a 33 year old female patient, asymptomatic, who is referred to the institution due to imaging findings of an intraperitoneal lesion, whose tomographic densities corresponded to lipoma vs. liposarcoma. Endoscopic studies were performed without evidence of endoluminal lesions. She underwent surgery where they performed an exploratory laparotomy + tumor resection + appendectomy and was reported pathologically as a well differentiated liposarcoma. She is currently in good clinical condition, with periodic clinical and imaging check-ups with no evidence of relapse.
