EXPERIENCE IN THERAPEUTIC ENDOSCOPY FOR EXTRACTION OF ESOPHAGEAL FOREIGN BODY ACCORDING TO ITS CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract

Background: Between 10-20% of the esophageal foreign body (FB) requires endoscopic resolution, and 1% surgical extraction. Objective: to report the experience in therapeutic endoscopy for the extraction of esophageal foreign body according to its characteristics. Patients and Method: retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study, January 2018-July 2022. Variables: age, sex, type of CE, symptoms, videoendoscopy (emergency, urgency and non-urgency), sedation/general anesthesia, removal (first endoscopy, second, surgical), accessories/ technique. Results: 105 children, age 3.77±2.31 (range: 10 months-11 years), 72.50% preschoolers and 67.50% males, 16,19% asymptomatic. The coin at 82.86%.
