Abstract

Celiac disease (CD) is a complex autoimmune enteropathy characterized by permanent intolerance to gluten proteins (gliadins, secalins, hordeins, and possibly avenins) or related proteins derived from rye or barley, characterized by subsequent intestinal malabsorption of nutrients. the ingestion of the same and an atrophy of the villi of the small intestine that is characteristic of the disease, but not specific. In the diagnosis of this pathology, intestinal biopsy continues to be the gold standard, but not all surgical pathologists are familiar with microscopic findings, which, even though they are not pathognomonic of the disorder, require a series of factors related to the number of samples, the quality, processing and interpretation of histological sections. That is why this work aims to organize and simplify general concepts related to pathology, emphasizing changes in the duodenal mucosa, to facilitate the analysis and interpretation of histopathological findings.
