ABSTRACT: The quantification of the energetic needs in the human being is a fundamental subject, because of the energy and nutrients consumption that has a person, depends in a great extent his state of health. But in addition, it is required that such food consumption should be complemented by a physical activity, in order to help to maintain physical training condition agreed the role that correspond him, to fulfill in the society in which him carries out. The technological advances have allowed that actually exist different models to determine the energy requirement, based on its power cost. That is the reason because we have been considered like objective: to compare some of the methods that are using at the present time, whereas the power cost, and to verify if exist significant differences among them, and to choose the most appropriate. In order to that we selected a random sample of 304 students of average basic education and from different cities, and we calculated their energy requirements by means of Harris-Benedict methods, the FAO/OMS Committee of Experts, the reference values of energy and nutrients for venezuelan population and FAO/OMS/INN 1985 recommendations, according to the level of physical activity and the metabolic valuation basal. It was applied t student and analysis of varianza. Results: There were statistically significant differences between averages by gender, for all methods and by physical activity, for the methods (Harris-Benedict and Committee Experts FAO/OMS 2004). The best method was reference values of energy and nutrients for Venezuelan population.
