Tamanho das posturas de Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock (Diptera: Tephritidae) em carambola
Abstract
The Carambola fruit fly (Bactrocera carambolae) is a quarantine pest present in Brazil with restricted distribution to the states of Amapá, Pará and Roraima. In order to determine the number of egg laying and clutch size of B. carambolae in star fruit (Averrhoa carambola), in laboratory conditions, we selected 30 couples of B. carambolae in reproductive age, from laboratoryreared in Laboratory of Plant Protection at Embrapa Amapá. Each couple was arranged in a cage containing a fruit with
an exposed face for oviposition and maintained in a controlled room (26 ± 1° C, 70 ± 10% U.R.; photophase of 12 h). After 48 h, the fruits were removed and observed under stereomicroscope for counting the egg laying and the clutch size. We recorded 54 egg laying and 695 eggs. The mean number of eggs laid per female was 33.09 ± 4,40 in 48h. The mean
number of ovipositions by female was 2.57 ± 0.27 in 48h. The mean number of eggs in each clutch was 12.87 ± 1,13. We conclude that B. carambolae not oviposits in green fruits of star fruit, most females perform multiple ovipositions in the same fruit and ovipositions are performed in groups of eggs
