Los Torneutini (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) de Venezuela

Abstract

Based on the study of 12 national and foreign collections we made a taxonomic study of the species of the tribe
Torneutini found in Venezuela. In total, 21 species distributed in 11 genera were studied: Thaumasus Reiche 1853
(1), Xenambyx Bates 1879 (1), Praxithea Thomson 1864 (4), Gnathopraxithea Campos Seabra & Tavakilian 1986
(1), Diploschema Thomson 1858 (3), Diploschemopsis Joly & Savini (1), Torneucerus Martins & Monné 1980 (1), ,
Torneutopsis Martins & Monné 1980 (1), Gigantotrichoderes Tippmann 1953 (2), Psygmatocerus Perty 1828 (1), and
Coccoderus Buquet 1840 (5). The following new species are described from Venezuela: Gigantotrichoderes brunneus,
Coccoderus pittieri, and C. spinulicornis. The genera Thaumasus Reiche 1853, Torneutopsis Martins & Monné 1980
and Torneucerus Martins & Monné 1980 and the species Thaumasus gigas (Olivier, 1792), Diploschema maculata
Martins & Monné 1980; Diploschema mandibulare Fuchs 1964; Diploschemopsis howdeni (Martins & Monné
1980), Torneutopsis translucidus Martins & Monné 198; Torneucerus armatus Martins & Monné 1980; Coccoderus
amazonicus Bates 1980 y C. bisignatus Buquet 1840 are recorded for the first time from Venezuela: All genera and
species studied are described and identification keys are provided. Some morphological features are illustrated and
photographs of all species are provided
