Perception of rheumatoid arthritis patients in relation to their disease
Abstract
Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the perception that patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have in relation to their disease. Methods: The sample was represented by 99 patients who met the diagnosis of RA according to the ACR - EULAR 2010 criteria for rheumatoid arthritis, with a 93% predominance of females and the average age was 51 years (±23). The averages of DAS 28, HAQ and SF36 were 3.88 (±2.66), 1.05 (± 0.68) and 57, respectively. Results: Regarding the information provided by the doctor about their disease, there was a significant difference in perception between the group that answered that No, the information provided by their doctor was clear and sufficient that it represented 77% (N = 77) and Yes the 22% (N = 22), since when comparing the mean of the participants a statistically significant difference was observed (p <0.028), evidencing that the perception of the patient in relation to the information supplied by the doctor influenced the score achieved. Having received information about their disease had an impact on the score achieved, observing that the group that did not obtain information presented a lower score than the counterpart, with a significant difference (p <0.001). Conclusion: Education by the treating physician represents a valuable element in the knowledge of the disease by patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.Downloads
