In order to analyze the effect of acid treatment on depolymerization Naricual coal was treated 6 g of coal with HCl (0.01 to 10 mol/L). The solution was filtered and the filtrate was retained. The coal was washed and dried. 3 g were then used to determine treated coal ash content (COVENIN 1646-80) and 1g of coal treated was extracted with Soxhlet system for 12h with dimethylformamide. We considered the sample treated with 1 M HCl to analyze the influence of extraction time (1-12h). FTIR spectra were generated for the organic fraction extracted. It was determined contents of Ca+2 and Fe+2 (atomic absorption), Na+ and K+ (atomic emission). The results indicate that pretreatment with HCl resulted in an increase in the percentage of extractable fraction (by the removal of metals associated with the coal: Na+, K+, Ca+2, Fe+2 and others), and proportional to the concentration of acid used. The extraction time was influenced directly by the percentage extracted (R2=0.9289), up to stabilization (8 hours). The removal of metals associated with the carboxylate groups is not determinative in this case and must consider other possible associations.
