ABSTRACT
The mechanisms that explain the presence and nature of radiometric anomalies over hydrocarbon reservoirs are presented, as well as results on the application of radiometric techniques on three Eastern Venezuelan oil fields. The corresponding places are: Amarilis, Monagas state, Nodosaria 15, Monagas state and Tascabaña, Anzoátegui state. Each HpGe and BGO detectors were used during the gamma spectrometric laboratory and in situ measurements. The Radon concentration in soil pores were determined by active (scintillation cells) and passive (SSNTD type LR-115) methods. The gamma spectrometric data were processed in such a way that variations due to local factors (soil type, lithology, vegetation cover, humidity and topography) were minimized. In order to spatially correlate the radiometric anomalies whit the active oil/gas well locations, geostatistical processing techniques were applied and radiometric maps were obtained. The applied radiometric surface techniques helped to map and understand consistently the geochemical and geophysical anomalies related to hydrocarbon migration associated to oil/gas traps. These studies have been of success in the identification of either the presence or the absence of reservoirs, and the anomalies were specially correlated with the location of active wells.
