RESUMEN
Este trabajo intenta mostrar los cambios que se vienen produciendo en los barrios caraqueños de fin de siglo, cómo estos cambios: densificación, violencia intra y extrabarrio, fragmentaciones sociales, etc., originan un estremecimiento de la identidad local y memoria popular urbana. Es en esta panorámica estructural, que se hace necesario repensar el barrio a partir de la recuperación del sentido de pertenencia, de la participación, expresión y principio de ciudadanía, con la finalidad de que de estas roturas y descosidos del tejido social popular, podamos hacer cultura y costura por la reconstrucción de un hábitat popular creativo y solidario.
ABSTRACT
This work tries to show the ongoing changes in the barrios (popular city quarters) of Caracas in the last years of the century, and how these changes (increase in population density, violence in- and- outside the barrios, social fragmentations, etc), generate a shock in the local identity and the urban popular memory. Under this structural view, the barrio must be re-conceived on the basis of the recovery of the sense of belonging. And from these torn and frayed seams in the social and popular weave, we aim to produce culture and seams as the basis for the reconstruction of a solidary, creative popular hábitat.
