LA POBLACIÓN DE VENEZUELA: EVOLUCIÓN, CRECIMIENTO Y DISTRIBUCIÓN GEOGRÁFICA

La disponibilidad de datos demográficos confiables en Venezuela data de finales del siglo XIX, cuando se realiza el primer censo de población (1873). Con anterioridad, sólo se cuenta con estimaciones fragmentarias y poco precisas, las cuales, sin embargo, son valederas dada la calidad
de los informantes. En total, para la fecha se han realizado trece (13) censos de población y vivienda, cuya calidad ha mejorado sustancialmente. Partiendo de esa información, es posible analizar la evolución histórica, el crecimiento, los patrones de concentración espacial y la distribución geográfica de la población venezolana, así como su composición y estructura y la movilidad espacial de los habitantes (migración interna e internacional). En este caso, nos limitaremos a las primeras cuatro categorías.
ABSTRACT
The availability of reliable demographic data in Venezuela dates since the end of the nineteenth century, when the fi rst population census took place (1873). Before that, there were only fragmentary and vague estimations; however they
resulted completely valid due to the informant’s quality. In the end, there have been thirteen (13) population and housing census until now, whose quality has improved
substantially. From this information, it is possible to analyze the historical evolution, the growth, the spatial concentration patterns and the geographical distribution of the Venezuelan population, and also its structure, composition and the internal mobility of inhabitants (national and international migration). In this case we are going to limit our self to the study of the first four categories.
