El adolescente venezolano: familia y género

Resumen

Esta investigación estudió la experiencia familiar de adolescentes venezolanos, hombres y mujeres de edades comprendidas entre 16 y 19 años, de 4º y 5º año de enseñanza secundaria y proveniente del Estrato IV (Pobreza Relativa). Es un estudio cualitativo que incorpora la perspectiva del género. Se encontró que la familia era un factor de protección donde las expectativas de progreso estaban centradas en el padre, y la madre era el centro de la vida familiar. Las adolescentes definían a su madre de manera favorable mientras que los varones adolescentes la criticaban. Los adolescentes varones demostraron idealización por el padre y las adolescentes relacionaban a sus padres con limitaciones cuando estaban presentes. Cuando los padres estaban ausentes surgieron sentimientos de abandono en el discurso tanto de los adolescentes varones como en el de las adolescentes. Las mujeres estuvieron orientadas hacia el cuidado del hogar y los hombres hacia la manutención de la familia.

The venezuelan adolescent: family and Genre

Abstract
This study investigated the family experience of Venezuelan adolescents, males and females, ages between 16 and 19 years old from fourth and fifth secondary school and from Estrato IV (Relative Poverty). It is a qualitative study which includes the Genre perspective. It was found that the family was a protective factor where the expectations of progress were focused on the father, the mother was the center of the family life. The female adolescents defined their mothers positively while the male adolescents criticized them. The male adolescents idealized their fathers, and the female adolescents associated their father with limitations when they were present. Feelings of abandonment in the male as well as as in the female adolescents arose in their discourse when the fathers were absent. Women were oriented towards family care while men towards family support.
