The psychological impact of bariatric surgery in oper ated obese patients
Abstract
Obesity constitutes one of the chronic diseases that generates the greatest imbalance in patients who suffer from it. Bariatric surgery emerges as the treatment of choice to treat obesity and improve associated physical comorbidities. This article aimed at presenting research findings that support that both a healthy lifestyle and psychological well-being vary after two years of surgery. A systematic review was conducted across six databases, without meta-analysis, evaluating a total of 86 articles. It was concluded that changes reported in psychological well-being and in the healthy lifestyle, occur in the immediate postoperative period or in the medium term, but are not maintained over time.
