Eating habits in college students: Influence of sex, BMI , sociocultural influences on appearence, teasing, diets and body satisfaction

Abstract
The objective of the present investigation was to study the influence of BMI, gender, dissatisfaction with body image, attitudes towards appearance and the perception of teasing about eating habits, using a route diagram. A total of 739 university students between 17 and 33 years old (56% women)
participated. Better habits were evidenced in younger men, with a greater sociocultural influence of conscience and a greater frequency of teasing for competition. Sex and teasing about weight are predictors of the number of diets carried out. Thus, being a woman, experiencing more teasing about weight and greater body dissatisfaction makes young people follow more diets. The findings allow considering the incorporation of new variables in the promotion of healthy habits.
