El objetivo central de este estudio es el de contrastar el republicanismo con el constitucionalismo liberal brasileño durante el período comprendido entre la Proclamación de la República y la Revolución de 1930. La reflexión se basa en que la tradición del pensamiento republicano resalta la insuficiencia de las instituciones en relación con los principios en los cuales deberían fundamentarse y que las más importantes tendencias del constitucionalismo liberal justifican la vigencia de la Constitución de 1891.También enfoca la conformación del sistema político republicano, enfatizando las relacionesde poder y los mecanismos de construcción de los pactos políticos para demostrar la trayectoria de la sociedad brasileña durante este período y los desafíos que tuvo que enfrentar.
Republicanism and liberal constitutionalism in the First Brazilian Republic (1889-1930)
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to contrast republicanism with liberal constitutionalism in Brazil from the proclamation of the Republic to the Revolution of 1930. The distinction lies in that traditional republican thinking emphasizes the insufficiency of institutions in relation to the principles on which they should be founded whereas the most important tendencies of liberal constitutionalism justify the duration of the Constitution of 1891. Highlighting the course of Brazilian society and the challenges endured throughout said period, this study also focuses on the conformation of the Republican political system, emphasizing on the relation of power and the means used to structure political agreements.
