EL COMPONENTE LINGÜÍSTICO COMO UNA FORMA DE CONTACTO CULTURAL EN LA LITERATURA VENEZOLANA CONTEMPORÁNEA

Resumen

La figura del inmigrante europeo en la narrativa venezolana prolifera a partir de la década de 1960, un par de decenios después de que ocurrieran las grandes oleadas migratorias producto de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Especialmente, en cuentos y novelas se encuentran personajes españoles, italianos y portugueses desempeñando roles tanto protagónicos como secundarios y circunstanciales. En este ensayo se discute el papel de la lengua como factor definidor en la participación del inmigrante dentro de la forja de la identidad nacional venezolana. Un análisis detallado de tres obras literarias contemporáneas revela que a través del contacto lingü.stico se produce también un acercamiento entre el inmigrante y el criollo. En la narrativa se refleja que la interacción entre diversas lenguas en territorio venezolano ha participado activamente en el proceso de construcción de la identidad del individuo y, por consiguiente, de la identidad nacional, la cual es una amalgama y se encuentra en constante evolución.

ABSTRACT

During the 1960’s, two decades after the World War II great migration, the presence of European immigrants in contemporary Venezuelan narrative starts to flourish. In short stories and novels there are specifically Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese characters that have leading or secondary roles. This essay analyzes the role of languages as a defining factor toward the immigrants’ involvement in the shaping of Venezuela’s national identity. After conducting a detailed study of three contemporary literary works, I conclude that immigrants and criollos become closer through linguistic contact. In other words, the narrative shows how the interaction between diverse languages in Venezuela becomes a key element in shaping the identity of its people. It plays a role in the building of the national identity, resulting in a cultural fusion that can be found in constant evolution.
