ABSTRACT

The fun “Marbles Marketplace” is presented from another perspective. This time it is displayed as a possible dialoguebetween “hard” and “soft” thought. To do this, the activity is applied in linear programming students, semester 2011-1,Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Antioquia (Medellin-Colombia). In this manuscript the mainstages are divided between the approaches “hard” and “soft.” Also photographs are shown to facilitate understanding andreinforce the evidence. At the end the emphasis on feedback is given by 18 students, which arises from the main lessonslearned and what represented this fun for them. It is remarkable how useful is this fun for students to: understand andreflect on the complexity of business decision making, teamwork, strengthen leadership and emotional intelligence as wellas listen to the other, tolerate differences, defend their ideas, test their hypothesis, learn from their own experimentationand interaction with the environment, and seek goals that contribute to everyone’s benefit. Keywords: Fun, Soft thinking, Hard thinking, Linear programming, Negotiation, Teamwork.
