PARA LA HISTORIA DE LA ENSEÑANZA DE LA INGENIERÍA EN VENEZUELA: ITINERARIO DE FECHAS, HECHOS, PROCESOS Y PERSONAJES / The History of the Teaching of Engineering in Venezuela: Itinerary of Dates, Events, Processes and Protagonists

Resumen

Se pretende reconstruir el camino específico que ha tenido la evolución de la enseñanza de la ingeniería en el país. En tal sentido, se presentan tanto un inventario detallado de los hitos históricos que marcan al proceso de formación de los ingenieros en Venezuela (aspecto que no se había investigado sistemáticamente), como una propuesta de un esquema de periodización que permita entenderlo mejor. Este esquema abarcaría desde el período colonial hasta 1998 y comprende las siguientes fases: 1) De la Colonia al Guzmancismo 1760-1872; 2) Del Guzmancismo al inicio de la era petrolera 1873-1922; 3) Comienzo de la era petrolera 1923-1957; 4) Modernización y democracia representativa 1958-1982; 5) Crisis y enseñanza de la ingeniería 1983-1998. Se concluye que, al examinar de conjunto el proceso histórico nacional de la enseñanza de ingeniería, se valida la utilidad de los elementos de análisis reunidos para comprender el rol de este campo profesional en la dinámica social de Venezuela.

ABSTRACT
This study attempts to reconstruct the path that the teaching of this professional field in the country has taken. As such, we present both a detailed inventory of the historical events that mark the process of the formation of engineers in Venezuela (something that as far as we understand has not been studied before systematically) as well as putting forward a tentative scheme that divides these events into periods that allow us to understand the process better. This scheme begins in colonial times and ends in 1998 and comprises the following phases: 1) From the Colony to Guzman Blanco (1760-1872);2) From Guzmán Blanco to the beginning of the petroleum era (1873-1922); 3) The beginning of the petroleum era (1923-1957); 4) Modernization and representative democracy (1958-1982); 5) Crisis and the teaching of engineering (1983-1998). We conclude that examining the national historical process of the teaching of engineering as a whole validates the usefulness of the elements of analysis employed and proposed in this study to understand the role of this professional field in the social dynamic of Venezuela.
