El Entorno Universitario y las Nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación. ¿Hacia dónde Vamos?

Resumen

El objetivo de este trabajo bibliográfico y documental es identificar los distintos retos a los que se enfrenta la universidad y el rol que ésta debe cumplir como consecuencia de la llegada de las Nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (NTIC). El conocimiento, las tecnologías de la información y la educación superior están ahora más vinculadas entre sí. La revolución tecnológica en materia de información y comunicación está afectando la educación, y pareciera que las aulas tradicionales, las bibliotecas y la presencia del docente, no son imprescindibles. La universidad ha jugado un valioso papel en la historia. Ahora es más importante, debido al florecimiento de la sociedad del conocimiento, con características globales. Lo cierto es que el rol del docente universitario, la participación del estudiante y el de la universidad deben cambiar para adaptarse a los nuevos retos que les impone la sociedad moderna. Las NTIC modernizarán a la educación pero no la sustituirán. La formación del docente  ebe incluir el uso de éstas, y tendrá éxito en la medida que la universidad apoye y se comprometa con los recursos necesarios para sustentarlo en el tiempo. La universidad debe flexibilizar sus procesos para que éstos sean cónsonos con la realidad educativa del siglo XXI. Finalmente el autor plantea una serie de medidas que la universidad debe tomar para aprovechar las ventajas que ofrecen las NTIC en la educación superior.

Abstract
The aim of this bibliographical and documentary study is to identify the different challenges that the university must face and the role that it must fulfill as a consequence of the arrival of the New Technologies of the Information (NTI). It is a fact that the arrival of these technologies have revolutionized the world; their influence and impact are inevitable, and the universities do not escape from this reality. Knowledge, information technologies and higher education are closer than ever. The revolution in technological matter is leading us to digitalizing education, and it may seem that the traditional classrooms, the libraries and the teacher’s presence are not indispensable any more. The university has played a valuable role in history, and now it is more important due to the bloom of the knowledge society , with global characteristics. The truth is that the role of the university teacher, the participation of the student and that of the university must change in order to adapt to the new challenges  hat the modern society imposes on them. The NTI will modernize education, but they will not replace it. Teacher training understood as a formal and constant process supported by the university, must include the use of the NTI. This process will be successful if the university supports it with the necessary resources. The university must adapt its processes in order to make them harmonious with the educational reality of the 21st century. Finally the author raises a series of measures that the university must adopt to take advantage of the benefits that the New Technologies of the Information (NTI) offers to higher education.
