No hay tiempo sin cambio (Aristóteles, Física, IV, 11, 218b21-219a10)

Resumen

En un pasaje inicial del tratado del tiempo Aristóteles sostiene: sin cambio no hay tiempo. De acuerdo a la interpretación estándar, el pasaje se centra en dos argumentos que sólo prueban la dependencia epistemológica entre tiempo y cambio. Estos argumentos son: 1) Percibir tiempo implica percibir cambio y 2) Percibimos a la vez tiempo y cambio. El propósito del artículo es mostrar que esta interpretación es incorrecta y relega los planteamientos de Aristóteles acerca del nexo entre la localización del movimiento, la alteridad de los ahoras y la percepción del tiempo.

Abstract

In an initial passage of the treatise on time, Aristotle claims: there is no time without change. According to the standard interpretation, the passage is focused on two arguments, which only prove the epistemological dependency between time and change. These two arguments are: 1) perception of time implies perception of change, and 2) time and change are simultaneously perceived. The purpose of this paper is to prove that this interpretation is incorrect and relegates Aristode’s statements about the link between location of motion, changeability of «nows» and perception of time.
