Aportes al conocimiento del género Herrania (Sterculiaceae) en Venezuela

RESUMEN

La revisión y análisis de muestras preservadas en los herbarios más importantes del país representa el primer estudio específico del géneroHerrania para Venezuela. Se determinaron dos especies de Herrania, las cuales se localizan predominantemente en los bosques húmedos.Herrania lemniscata (Schomb.) Schult. resultó ser la más representativa del género y con mayor distribución. En el tratamiento taxonómico se indican las secciones, descripciones e ilustraciones de una rama del hábito acompañada de los detalles florales y del fruto, aportando también información del uso, hábitat y fenología de las especies Herraniaalbiflora Goud. y Herranialemniscata (Schomb.) Schult.

ABSTRACT

The revision and analysis of the material preserved in the most important herbaria in the country represents the first study of the genusHerrania for Venezuela. Two species of Herrania, distributed predominantly in humid forests were determined. Herrania lemniscata(Schomb.) Schult. is the most representative species of the genus and the one with the widest distribution. In the taxonomic treatment, the sections accompanied by keys, descriptions and illustrations are indicated with details of flowers and fruits and information of use, habitat and fenology of the species Herrania albiflora Goud and Herrania lemniscata (Schomb.) Schult.
