Resumen : | To evaluate the productive performance of growing pigs fed whole peach-palm meal (Bactris gasipaes H.B.K)(PM) and syntetic lysine (LYS), 72 castrated barrows (initial body weight 30 ± 0.5 kg) were randomly allotted to one of each diet in a 2x3 factorial arrangement of treatments without (0%) or with (0.27%) LYS, and three levels of PM (0, 25, and 50%) for a total of six experimental diets with four replications per diet and three pigs per experimental unit. During six weeks, average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), and feed efficiency (ADFI/ADG) were evaluated. Backfat thickness (BF) was measured at the beginning and at the end of the experiment. The addition of PM did not affect ADG or ADFI/ADG, however ADFI decreased (p<0.05) with by PM effect. Pigs fed with 50% PM diets consumed 0.146 and 0.178 kg less (p<0.05) of food with respect to those fed with 0% HP o 25% HP, respectively. Neither, ADG nor ADFI was affected by LYS addition or PM x LYS interaction. Pigs that were fed with 50% PM + 0.27% LYS showed better ADFI/ADG (p< 0.05) in comparison with pigs fed with 50% PM + 0% LYS and 25% PM + 0.27% LYS.
The BF was similar among treatments. It was concluded that is feasible to replace 50% of corn energy with PM in diets for growing pigs because, although ADFI decreases, feed conversion efficiency improves with LYS. |
