Descripción : Objective: To determine the anatomical variants of the olfactory groove and its relationship with smell disorders in children, assessed by computed tomography at the Military Hospital Dr. Carlos Arvelo, during July to December 2015. Method: A descriptive, prospective and correlational study was conducted with a nonrandom sample of 33 children of both genders, between 3 to 12 years old, who attended the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital images service and underwent sinus computed tomography. Descriptive statistical analysis was applied. The relationship between the result of the scan and the definitive diagnosis was made with the Pearson chi-square test. Results: it was found that by classifying patients according to the result of the olfactory test the largest group was normal (42.4%), followed by mild hyposmia. Keros most observed was type II, coinciding with the bibliographies and references cited. Shallow olfactory grooves and small cribosas sheets are related to more olfactory disorders. Cribosas asymmetries sheets are not significant for predicting possibility of olfactory disorders. Conclusions: Sinus computed tomography proved to be an effective method to recognize the anatomical variants of the olfactory groove which according to our research, would likely causes of olfactory disorders. By measuring Keros and surface of cribosas sheets, the radiologist may suggest the application of test of smell and identify earlier any disorder.
