Resumen : | Hepatitis induced by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) constitutes a significant public health problem around the world. The importance of the infection's epidemiology arises chiefly from the different developmental phases of the disease (acute and chronic) and from the existence of carriers who show no clinical or biochemical evidence of hepatic disease, but who carry hepatitis B surface antigen in their serum. These carriers are able to transmit the disease agent and are also susceptible to liver disease at some point in their lives. |
